Chittagong the second largest city of Bangladesh, regarded as the nation’s commercial capital, is also the country’s major port. The city has a population of more than 4 million people. Another 4.5 million people live in the adjoining areas that depend on Chittagong for medical facilities including diagnostics. Health services are provided in the city by a government owned 1,500-bed Medical Hospital and College, a private Medical University with a 500-bed hospital, several hospitals owned by semi-government and autonomous organization in the public sector and also a good number of private clinics and hospitals in the private sector. However, modern diagnostic services, provided under one roof, has not yet developed in any of these institutions. |
